Simon Kalamu, a resident of Namulanda B Village, allegedly died during a second round of intimacy in Bukooma Sub-County — postmortem ordered as police probe cause of death.

Police in Luuka District, eastern Uganda, have launched a formal investigation into the sudden and shocking death of a 50-year-old man who reportedly collapsed and died during a sexual encounter late Monday night in Bukooma Sub-County. The incident has once again raised urgent questions about lifestyle choices, hidden health conditions, and the dangers of sexual exertion among middle-aged men in Uganda.

Who Was the Deceased? Meet Simon Kalamu of Namulanda B Village

The deceased has been officially identified as Simon Kalamu, a resident of Namulanda B Village in Bukoma Sub-County, Luuka District. He was 50 years old at the time of his death. According to Busoga North Police Spokesperson SP Samson Lubega, preliminary findings indicate the tragic incident occurred at approximately 9:00 PM on Monday evening.

According to SP Lubega's official statement, Kalamu and a 40-year-old woman from the same local area allegedly left their surroundings and moved to a nearby bush, where the two engaged in a sexual encounter.

"The deceased and the woman reportedly moved to a nearby bush where they engaged in a sexual act. After the first round, he allegedly collapsed during the second round," SP Lubega stated, as reported by Monitor Uganda.

The woman, visibly alarmed after Kalamu suddenly became unresponsive and motionless, raised an immediate alarm. Her cries attracted nearby residents, who subsequently alerted local area leaders and police officers, who arrived at the scene shortly after.

The body was recovered from the bush and transported to a government mortuary, where a postmortem examination has been ordered to officially determine the exact cause of death. Investigations by the Luuka District Police remain actively ongoing.

A resident in the area, speaking under the condition of anonymity, revealed that Simon Kalamu was widely known in the community for leading what many described as a risky and unrestrained lifestyle. The source alleged that Kalamu regularly maintained multiple extramarital affairs and was frequently seen consuming energy drinks and traditional herbal concoctions, substances commonly used in the region as sexual performance boosters.

The anonymous resident further suggested that this pattern of behavior may have directly contributed to his untimely collapse, speculating that Kalamu likely suffered a sudden cardiac arrest or heart attack triggered by intense physical exertion combined with the effects of stimulants.

What Do Medical Experts Say About Sudden Death During Sex?

While the official postmortem results are still pending, medical experts have for years consistently linked cases of sudden death during sexual intercourse to serious and often undiagnosed underlying medical conditions. The most commonly cited causes include:

  • Coronary heart disease and cardiac arrest
  • Hypertensive crisis (dangerously elevated blood pressure)
  • Stroke triggered by sudden physical and emotional exertion
  • Adverse reactions to stimulants, energy drinks, or herbal supplements
  • Aortic aneurysm rupture during physical activity

Physicians regularly warn that the combination of physical exertion, emotional excitement, and stimulant consumption significantly elevates the risk of fatal cardiovascular events — particularly in men over 40 with unmonitored or untreated health conditions.

A Disturbing Pattern: Similar Deaths Previously Reported in Uganda's Busoga Region

The tragic death of Simon Kalamu is not an isolated case in Uganda's Busoga region. The incident has revived painful and widely discussed memories of several eerily similar deaths reported in recent years:

  • October 2022 — Kamuli District: A woman from Kamuli District reportedly died shortly following an intimate encounter with a man from Jinja City, sparking widespread public discussion.
  • March 2025 — Kamuli-Kitimbo Road: A 32-year-old woman allegedly died at a lodge located along the Kamuli-Kitimbo Road, under circumstances strikingly similar to the Luuka District case.

The repeated occurrence of such incidents within the Busoga region has prompted renewed calls from health advocates and community leaders for greater public health awareness, regular medical screenings, and honest conversations about the dangers of unmonitored stimulant use and sexual risk-taking among adults.
