7th Edition of Pwani Innovation Week 2026 Set for October as Swahilipot Hub Turns 10

Pwani Innovation Week 2026 returns to Mombasa from October 26–30, marking Swahilipot Hub Foundation's 10th anniversary with hackathons, pitch events and more.

The coastal city of Mombasa is preparing to host a landmark event in innovation and youth empowerment, as the 7th edition of Pwani Innovation Week (PIW 2026) is set to run from October 26 to 30, 2026. This year's summit doubles as a milestone celebration, marking a decade of the Swahilipot Hub Foundation's work fostering youth-led innovation along the Kenyan coast.

A Decade of Impact, Reaching Its Peak

Hosted at the iconic Swahilipot Hub and led by founder Mahmoud Noor, popularly known as Mentor 001, the five-day summit is expected to draw thousands of young innovators, entrepreneurs and creatives from across the Kenyan coast and beyond.

The event will serve as the culmination of Swahilipot's "A Decade & Beyond" campaign, spotlighting ten years of nurturing youth talent in technology, art and entrepreneurship — work that has reshaped opportunities for young people across the region.

The Journey So Far: From Launch to Diplomatic Engagement

Celebrations for this milestone year kicked off with a high-profile media launch in Nairobi, bringing together international partners alongside local policymakers and Mombasa County officials. The engagement has continued through subsequent diplomatic meetings in Nairobi, where Swahilipot Hub leadership and county representatives renewed commitments to positioning the Kenyan coast as a regional hub for innovation, creativity and youth-driven enterprise.

Speaking at one such engagement, Noor emphasised that building a sustainable innovation ecosystem requires more than good ideas — young innovators need stronger support systems that connect them to investment, mentorship and wider markets. He noted that platforms like Pwani Innovation Week have become central to linking coastal innovators with policymakers, investors and industry leaders.

Mombasa County officials have echoed that commitment, pointing to county-level programmes such as the Revolving Fund and Skills Mtaani initiative, which aim to equip young people with employable skills and steer them away from drug abuse, crime and other social risks.

What to Expect at PIW 2026

Themed around Youth Agency, Innovation, and Sustainability of Coastal Economies, this year's summit aims to empower young people to lead sustainable change across the region. Attendees can expect a vibrant blend of technology and culture, including:

  • Hackathons and startup pitch events, giving young innovators a platform to showcase practical solutions to real economic and social challenges
  • Exhibitions highlighting local innovations from across the coastal counties
  • The Creative and Culture stage, spotlighting the region's heritage through digital art and spoken word performances
  • The much-anticipated "Pwani Got Talent" finals, a fan favourite from previous editions
  • Masterclasses, panel discussions and plenaries featuring industry leaders, environmental experts and policymakers, with conversations centred on blue economy opportunities and regional development

Why It Matters for the Coast

Pwani Innovation Week has grown steadily since its earlier editions, evolving from a niche gathering of coastal innovators into a major annual platform that has previously attracted thousands of participants, including delegates from neighbouring coastal towns in Tanzania. As Swahilipot Hub marks a full decade of operation, PIW 2026 is positioned not just as a celebration of past achievements, but as a launchpad for the next phase of coastal innovation — one that organisers hope will attract greater investment and stronger partnerships into grassroots projects along the coast.

Registration and What's Next
