Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru Held at Kasarani Police Station Over Obstruction Claim

Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, a close Gachagua ally, has been arrested and taken to Kasarani Police Station following a vehicle breakdown incident on Thika Road.

Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, was allegedly arrested on Wednesday night and taken to Kasarani Police Station following an incident along Thika Road.

Njiru confirmed the arrest through a statement on his social media pages, claiming police detained him after his vehicle developed mechanical problems on the busy highway.

"I have been arrested by the Kasarani Police. I am at Kasarani Police Station. I am being accused of obstruction after my vehicle broke down on the Thika Highway. Police are yet to book me," Njiru stated.

While the lawyer maintained that his arrest stemmed from the alleged obstruction, it was not immediately clear whether investigators were pursuing any other offences. Police had also not issued an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the arrest by the time of publication.

A Day After Criticizing Ruto Over Ol Kalou Projects

The arrest comes barely a day after Njiru launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto over the Head of State's pledge to channel more than Ksh10 billion worth of development projects to Ol Kalou ahead of the constituency's by-election.

In his remarks, Njiru accused the President of using development projects as a political tool, arguing that public resources should not be tied to election campaigns. The lawyer further claimed that the government's timing in announcing the projects amounted to political tokenism, expressing confidence that voters would distinguish between sustained development and last-minute campaign promises.

A Prominent Voice in Gachagua's Circle

Njiru has, in recent months, emerged as one of the most outspoken critics of the Kenya Kwanza administration and has frequently represented Gachagua in court, including in legal proceedings challenging the former Deputy President's impeachment. He has also been a vocal presence in opposition rallies and strategy meetings, appearing alongside Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Justin Muturi.

His arrest has already stirred reaction online, with some Kenyans condemning what they described as the targeting of a government critic, while others argued that due legal process, including formal charges if any, should simply be allowed to run its course.

Opposition Leaders Yet to Comment

By the time of publication, none of the senior opposition leaders, including Gachagua, Kalonzo, or Muturi, had publicly commented on Njiru's arrest, while police had yet to provide further details beyond the alleged obstruction incident.

This is a developing story. Don Sami Live will update this post once police issue an official statement or Njiru is formally charged or released.
