A 3-year-old girl was rescued by neighbours in Shonda, Likoni after being found locked inside a house overnight. Her father, Caleb Omondi, was arrested over alleged abuse as the child's mother recovered at Mrima Hospital after delivery.

A three-year-old girl is safe this morning after neighbours in Mtaa wa Katikati, Shonda, Likoni, rescued her from a house that had allegedly been locked from outside overnight.

According to Amina Juma of Sauti ya Kina Mama, a local welfare organization, the alarm was raised after residents heard the child crying for an extended period during the night. On investigating, they found the house locked from outside with the minor alone inside.

The child's father, Caleb Omondi, was arrested by members of the public over alleged abuse and escorted to Inuka Police Station, where he remains in custody as investigations continue.

New details have since emerged that the child's mother, Zainab Hamisi, was not home at the time as she had been admitted at Mrima Hospital three days earlier to deliver her second child. She has since been discharged and is now assisting police with the investigation.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the case progresses.
