Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has announced the death of his wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, who collapsed and died of a suspected heart attack on Saturday morning.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale is mourning the sudden death of his wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, who collapsed and died on Saturday morning after suffering a heart attack.
Announcing the death, the Senator said his wife's passing came without warning. "My dear wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, has this morning suddenly collapsed and died after a heart attack," Khalwale said in a statement.
Sekeiyan was Khalwale's third wife and the mother of eight of his children — Engine Kukaste, Olivia Sabayi, Flavia Shimuli, Gift Atubukha, Meliza Khamwenyi, Velma Nasiebanda, Sonia Inuni, and Maura Makatse Khalwale. Their eldest son, Engine Kukaste Khalwale, recently graduated as a Certified Full-Stack Software Engineer from Moringa School.
The Senator did not disclose whether his wife had been battling any illness prior to her death.
Tributes have continued to pour in from political leaders and members of the public. ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna sent his condolences, saying, "Omwami Khalwale, pole sana for your loss. May God comfort you and your family in this difficult time. Khulialala Omwami. May her soul rest in peace."
National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee Chair Samuel Atandi also condoled with the Senator, while former Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera wished the family strength during this difficult period. ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale extended condolences to Khalwale, his family, and the wider community of Malinya in Ikolomani, Kakamega County.
Khalwale, who has previously spoken about his family life, disclosed in February 2024 that he has four wives and 17 children in total. His first wife, the late Adelaide Khalwale, died in 2019 and was the mother of his first three children. His second wife, Josephine Khalwale, has three children with him, while his fourth wife, Diana Khalwale, is also the mother of three of his children.
Khalwale served as the first Senator of Kakamega County from 2013 to 2017.
