KUCCPS 2026 Application Window Is Now Open: Deadlines, Eligibility, Degree and TVET Requirements — Everything You Need to Know

If you sat the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination — or if you are a Form Four leaver from any previous year — the window you have been waiting for is officially open. The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has launched its 2026 application portal, giving eligible candidates the opportunity to apply for placement into universities, colleges, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country.

The portal opened on April 7, 2026 and will remain active until May 6, 2026. That is a one-month window — and if you miss it, you miss your placement cycle entirely. Do not wait.

Who Can Apply?
The 2026 KUCCPS application targets two broad groups:
The 2025 KCSE class is eligible to apply for both degree programmes at universities and TVET programmes at colleges. Previous Form Four leavers who sat their KCSE exams between 2000 and 2025 are also eligible — specifically for TVET programmes, regardless of the grade they attained.

Here is the breakdown by qualification:
+ Degree Programmes require a minimum mean grade of C+ (plus). Out of the 980,444 eligible candidates who sat the 2025 KCSE, a total of 268,700 attained C+ and above, qualifying them for placement into any of the 43 public and 31 private universities currently available for this cycle.
+ TVET Programmes are open to anyone who sat KCSE between 2000 and 2025, regardless of grade — whether you scored an A or an E. This means the door to college education is open to virtually every Form Four leaver in Kenya. A total of 711,744 candidates who scored between C plain and E qualify for placement into public colleges and TVET institutions.
+ Open University of Kenya offers a unique pathway for candidates who scored C+ and above and sat their exams between 2000 and 2025 — giving older candidates who missed out on university placement in previous years another genuine opportunity to pursue a degree.

What Programmes Are Available and How Many Spaces Exist?
The scale of availability this year is significant. Here is a breakdown of the total capacities approved for the 2026/2027 Placement Cycle:

+ Degree Programmes: The Commission for University Education (CUE) has approved a total of 322,396 spaces across public and private universities.
+ TVET and Middle-Level College Programmes: A combined capacity of 1,132,531 spaces is available across diplomas, certificates, artisan programmes, and other TVET levels across 251 public TVET colleges, including 33 university TVET institutes.
+ Secondary Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs): An additional 2,480 spaces are available for those pursuing the teaching profession pathway.

When Will You Report to Your Institution?
The reporting dates differ depending on the programme you are applying for, and this is important to note:

Candidates placed into degree programmes will join their respective universities from September 2026.
Candidates placed into TVET programmes can report to their colleges starting May 2026, since TVET placement runs on a continuous basis — meaning successful applicants may not have to wait as long before beginning their studies.

How Placement Works: Merit, Priorities, and Capacity
Placement is not random. As required by the Universities Act of 2012, all placement decisions are made strictly on merit, taking into account three key factors: the programmes you list as your priorities during application, your KCSE performance, and the available capacity at each institution.
This means the order in which you list your programme choices matters enormously. Apply thoughtfully, list your most desired programmes first, and ensure your choices align realistically with your grades and qualification level.

Where to Get Help Applying
KUCCPS will deploy officers to universities and TVET institutions across all counties throughout the application period to assist candidates who need support. Dates and locations will be published on the official KUCCPS website at www.kuccps.ac.ke.

Alternatively, applicants can walk into any Huduma Centre across the country for in-person assistance with their application.

A Note on KMTC Applications
For candidates interested in joining the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), note that the September 2026 KMTC intake application will open after the current university placement cycle is completed. This includes candidates from the 2025 KCSE class as well as those who repeated specific subjects in order to meet KMTC programme requirements. All KMTC applications will also be submitted through the KUCCPS portal.
