High Court Quashes Aisha Jumwa's Appointment as Kenya Roads Board Chairperson — Declared Unconstitutional and Unlawful

photo: Former KRB Boss, Aisha Jumwa./courtesy In what legal commentators are already describing as one of the most consequential rulings on public appointments in recent Kenyan judicial history, the High Court has struck down the appointment of former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa Katana as non-executive Chairperson of the Kenya Roads Board (KRB) — declaring it unconstitutional, unlawful, and void ab initio , meaning illegal from the very beginning. Delivering the ruling, Justice Bahati Mwamuye was unambiguous in his findings: the appointment process failed to comply with the mandatory statutory framework set out in law, and no amount of presidential goodwill, political loyalty, or gazette publication could retroactively cure that fundamental illegality. "The appointment of Hon. Aisha Jumwa Katana as a member of the Kenya Roads Board is unconstitutional and unlawful ab initio as it did not comply with Section 7 of the Kenya Roads Boards Act and Articles 10, 47 and 2...

AFCON 2027 Qualifiers Draw: The Road to East Africa Begins

Confederation of Africa Football [CAF] unveils all 12 groups as 48 African nations discover their qualification path to the landmark tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially drawn the curtain on speculation, conducting the highly anticipated AFCON 2027 qualifying draw in Cairo and setting all 48 nations on a collision course toward East Africa's biggest sporting spectacle.

The draw, held on 19 May 2026, produced a series of blockbuster group-stage matchups that promise intense battles across the continent from September 2026 through to March 2027. With the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations set to be jointly staged across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania — a first for East Africa — the qualification race carries historic weight.

"This is the most anticipated AFCON in a generation — and the qualifying campaign promises fireworks from Group A to Group L."

Tournament co-hosts

🇰🇪Kenya
🇺🇬Uganda
🇹🇿Tanzania

All three co-hosts have earned automatic qualification for the final tournament, though they still participate in the qualifying rounds. Tanzania finds themselves in Group L alongside heavyweight Nigeria — making for a fascinating subplot as the hosts go head-to-head with the Super Eagles on home soil.

Key groups to watch

Group J is the standout "group of death" on paper. African champions Senegal — winners of the most recent AFCON — face a tricky path against Mozambique, Sudan and Ethiopia. Les Lions du Sénégal will be heavy favourites, but African football has a rich history of upsets.

Group D pits co-hosts Kenya in what shapes up as a fiercely competitive pool. Gabon, Congo and South Africa all have the quality to challenge, meaning the Harambee Stars cannot afford any slip-ups at home if they are to progress as group winners alongside the automatically qualified co-host berth.

Group C features defending champions Ivory Coast alongside co-hosts Uganda, Zambia and Niger. The Elephants will be expected to top the group, but Uganda's home advantage and a resurgent Zambia ensure nothing is guaranteed.

Group L sees Nigeria — always one of Africa's most watched footballing nations — headline alongside Tanzania. The Super Eagles will be firm favorites to qualify, but facing a co-host nation buoyed by a passionate home crowd adds a fascinating dimension to every matchday.
