Konza Technopolis Development Authority has officially changed its name to Technopolis Development Authority under a new 2026 law.
The Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) has officially changed its name to Technopolis Development Authority (TDA).
In an official statement shared by KoTDA on June 18, the rebranding follows President William Ruto's assent to the Technopolis Act, 2026, which was signed into law on May 11, 2026. The Act, formally identified as No. 13 of 2026, was subsequently gazetted in Kenya Gazette Supplement No. 120 on May 15, 2026.
"Following the Presidential assent to the Technopolis Act, 2026 (No.13 of 2026) on 11th May 2026 and its subsequent publication in Kenya Gazette Supplement No. 120 dated 15th May 2026, we wish to notify the public that the name of Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) has officially changed to Technopolis Development Authority," stated the notice in part.
This means the authority that has long been associated with the ambitious smart city project now operates under a fresh legal identity.
An Expanded Mandate, Not Just a New Name
According to the smart city authority, the name change is not merely cosmetic, as it reflects an expanded mandate under the new legal framework. It also means that all obligations under existing contractual relationships remain intact despite the change of name, so business continues as usual.
"The change of name does not affect any obligations, assets, liabilities, operations or contractual relationships with our investors, customers, tenants, partners or other stakeholders," the notice stated.
The authority further directs that references to KoTDA in official documents, correspondence, contracts, and other engagements shall, henceforth, be construed to refer to the Technopolis Development Authority. The authority's physical location remains unchanged, still situated at Konza Technopolis along the Mombasa Road side of Nairobi.
Part of a Wider Trend of Government Rebrands
This year has also seen a number of other government bodies and agencies change their names. For instance, the Kenya Meteorological Department transitioned into the Kenya Meteorological Service Authority on March 13, after Ruto assented to the Meteorology Act, 2023.
New Leadership and Conservancy Status
The rebrand comes just days after KoTDA announced new leadership, with President Ruto appointing former Isiolo South Member of Parliament Abdul Bahari Ali as the new Non-Executive Chairperson of the KoTDA Board.
