EPRA Retains Fuel Prices: No Change for Motorists Until August 14, 2026

EPRA has maintained fuel prices for the July 15 to August 14, 2026 cycle, with super petrol at Ksh214.03, diesel at Ksh222.86 and kerosene at Ksh191.38 in Nairobi.

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced that fuel prices across Kenya will remain unchanged for the pricing cycle running from July 15 to August 14, 2026, offering motorists and businesses temporary relief.

Following the review, super petrol will retail at Ksh214.03 per litre in Nairobi, diesel at Ksh222.86 and kerosene at Ksh191.38.

"In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene remain unchanged," EPRA said in a statement.

Why Prices Stayed Flat

EPRA attributed the stability to continued government intervention shielding consumers from global price shocks, particularly renewed volatility linked to instability in the Middle East. To keep pump prices steady, the government extended the 8 per cent VAT on petroleum products for a further three months, to October 2026, and injected Ksh945 million from the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) Fund into the pricing structure.

Landed Costs Fell, But Pump Prices Held

Notably, the average landed cost of super petrol dropped by 21 per cent to Ksh115,070 per cubic metre in June, down from about Ksh146,250 in May. Diesel's landed cost fell 19.8 per cent to Ksh127,700 per cubic metre, while kerosene dropped 11.7 per cent to Ksh133,370 per cubic metre.

Despite these declines, pump prices were held rather than reduced, a decision that has drawn some public frustration online, with several Kenyans questioning why falling international crude prices have not translated into cheaper fuel at the pump. EPRA maintains that the VAT extension and PDL subsidy are active measures preventing an increase, even where a cut hasn't materialized.

The average exchange rate used in the pricing cycle stood at Ksh129.72 to the US dollar, relatively stable compared to previous months.
