Grade 9 Student Dies in Fall at CITAM Schools Ngong, DCI Launches Investigation

CITAM Schools Ngong has confirmed the death of a Grade 9 student who fell from a school rooftop, with police and DCI now investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

A Grade 9 student at CITAM Schools Ngong has died after reportedly falling from the rooftop of a school building on Monday morning, prompting police investigations into the incident.

The incident, which occurred on June 13, was confirmed by the school in a statement sent to parents and guardians. According to the statement, the Head of School and members of staff responded immediately after the learner fell.

Reports indicate that the student was given urgent medical attention before being rushed to Karen Hospital in consultation with her parents, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. CITAM Schools said the incident was reported at Ngong Police Station shortly after it occurred.

The institution added that it is cooperating with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and other relevant authorities as investigations are conducted.

"Following the incident, the school administration proceeded to Ngong Police Station to officially report the matter. We are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)," the statement read.

The school said it will provide professional counselling and pastoral support to the bereaved family, learners and staff affected by the tragedy.

The circumstances surrounding the student's death remain unclear, with circulating reports claiming the family has disputed unverified allegations of suicide and is seeking answers about what happened.

The school has urged community members to avoid speculation and the circulation of unverified information as police investigations are expected to determine the events leading up to the fatal incident.

"We respectfully request all members of our school community to refrain from speculation or the circulation of unverified information, whether in person or on social media, out of respect for the bereaved family and to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigations," the statement read.

The incident has heightened concern following similar tragedies in other schools, including the recent death of a Grade 9 student at Lakewood Private School in Utawala, whose postmortem found he died from severe blunt force trauma consistent with a fall from height.
