Forward Travellers SACCO Suspends Driver Over Viral Goons Video, Denies Wrongdoing

Forward Travellers SACCO has taken disciplinary action against a driver captured in a viral video allegedly showing him mobilising goons in Nairobi, distancing itself from the incident as investigations continue.

Popular Nairobi commuter bus company Forward Travellers SACCO has taken disciplinary action against one of its drivers after a viral video allegedly showed him mobilising individuals to cause violence in Nairobi.

The footage, which began circulating on Sunday, July 12, triggered widespread public criticism, with social media users alleging that the vehicle was being used to ferry suspected goons involved in unlawful activities.

While responding to the matter, the SACCO on Monday, July 13, distanced itself from the incident, stating that it does not support the misuse of its vehicles or any activities that violate the law.

"We wish to make it clear that Forward Travellers SACCO does not condone the misuse of its vehicles or any conduct that is contrary to the law," the commuter bus company clarified.

The SACCO further claimed that those behind the video's circulation were attempting to tarnish its reputation and erode the trust it has built with customers over the years.

As investigations continue, Forward Travellers SACCO confirmed that it had already taken administrative action against the driver seen in the video.

"As an immediate administrative measure, action has been taken against the driver featured in the video pending the outcome of investigations," the company stated.

"We perceive that the circulation of this video was motivated by an intention to damage our reputation and undermine the trust that our members, customers, and the public have placed in us over the past 15 years," it added.

The commuter bus company noted that it was cooperating with the relevant authorities to establish the facts and determine whether additional action would be necessary.

The SACCO also urged its drivers, conductors and staff to uphold professionalism, obey the law and safeguard the company's reputation at all times. It warned that any individual found to have violated the company's policies would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the law and the SACCO's policies.

"Our management and staff remain committed to providing safe, reliable, and high-quality transport services while upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and customer service," the company noted.

Meanwhile, police have not yet publicly released the outcome of the investigations or confirmed the identities of the individuals captured in the circulating footage.
