IEBC confirms Ol Kalou by-election campaigns end Monday at 6 PM, with a 48-hour silence period ahead of polling on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued a fresh update on the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election, confirming that campaigns officially end today, Monday, 13 July 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
After 6:00 p.m., all candidates and political parties must observe the mandatory 48-hour campaign silence period ahead of polling day, in accordance with electoral law. This means no further campaign activity is allowed from candidates or their supporters until voting is complete.
The IEBC has reminded eligible voters that they must present their original National Identity Card or a valid Kenyan passport in order to vote. Voters are also required to report to their designated polling station, where they are registered, rather than any station of their choosing.
Polling will take place this Thursday, 16 July 2026. The commission is urging voters to turn out early, follow instructions from election officials, and maintain peace throughout the electoral process.
Election stakeholders have urged Ol Kalou residents to uphold law and order and allow the democratic process to proceed peacefully. The by-election follows the death of area MP David Njuguna Kiaraho in March 2026, and has attracted intense competition between President Ruto's UDA and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's DCP, among other parties, making it an early litmus test ahead of the 2027 General Election.
