The announcements of Ksh5 million awards for participating institutions came as schools and colleges were recognised for their performances at the 98th Kenya Music Festival, held at Kibabii University in Bungoma County.
Moi Forces Academy in Nairobi emerged as the best pre-primary school, while Aga Khan Academy Mombasa took the top position in the primary school category.
In special needs education, Koyonzo Special School won the junior category, while Mwikhomo Special School emerged top in the senior category. Nzoia Sugar clinched the junior school category, building on a strong run at this year's festival where the institution reportedly won multiple category awards.
Bunyore Girls High School was named the best senior school, adding to the Vihiga institution's growing reputation in choral and spoken-word categories. Murang'a School for the Hearing Impaired won the special needs senior school category.
At the tertiary level, Kitui Teachers Training College emerged top among teachers training colleges, Eldoret National Polytechnic won the national polytechnic category, and Kenyatta University took the top university award.
Coast Teachers College Choir was named the best teachers' club and choir, alongside other institutions recognised across the festival's various categories.
The recognitions came as President William Ruto directed the Ministry of Education to award Ksh5 million to every participating school and institution, in a move expected to push total government funding beyond Ksh150 million.
