President Ruto has directed Ksh5 million be awarded to each school and institution that participated in the 98th Kenya Music Festival, alongside plans to expand Bungoma's smart city to 24 floors.
President William Ruto has directed the Ministry of Education to award Ksh5 million to each school and institution that participated in this year's music and drama festivals, as a boost to creative arts programmes across the country.
Speaking on Friday during the State Concert for the 98th Kenya Music Festival at Bungoma State Lodge, Ruto said the funds would recognise the participating institutions and support their continued growth in the creative sector. "There are over 30 schools and colleges participating in this event today. We want to say congratulations. I want to ask the Ministry of Education that the schools and institutions be awarded Ksh5 million each as a show of gratitude and appreciation," Ruto said.
The President directed Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba to make arrangements for the allocation, with the funds expected to go towards improving facilities and infrastructure used for music and creative activities. He said the money should also help institutions strengthen their preparations for next year's festival, with the total government allocation potentially exceeding Ksh150 million.
Smart City Expansion
Ruto also announced plans to expand the proposed smart city development in Bungoma, directing the Ministry of Housing to redesign the project to accommodate more residents. The development, initially planned as a 14-floor building, will now rise to 24 floors and will include shopping, learning and medical facilities.
The President said similar smart cities would be rolled out in other parts of the country as part of the government's push for equitable development.
