President Ruto has confirmed Ksh1.2 billion for a university in Emurua Dikirr in honour of the late MP Johana Ng'eno, and set October as the target to launch construction of a new Class B road linking the area to the Rironi-Mau Summit corridor.
President William Ruto has set October as the target for launching construction of a new Class B road linking Emurua Dikirr to the Rironi-Mau Summit corridor, while confirming Ksh1.2 billion in government funding for a university planned in the area in honour of the late area MP Johana Ng'eno.
Speaking during the handover of Mamboleo Modern Market in Emurua Dikirr on Wednesday, August 26, Ruto said the funds for the university had now been secured. "You asked me for the construction of a university here at Emurua Dikirr; I have today brought you Ksh1.2 billion for the construction of a new university that will be in honour of the late Johana Ng'eno," Ruto announced.
The President said the institution would expand access to higher education for students from Emurua Dikirr and the wider Narok County. "The university will help the children from this area, Narok and the rest of Narok," he said.
The proposed institution builds on earlier plans by Narok County leaders to establish a satellite campus of Maasai Mara University in Emurua Dikirr in Ng'eno's memory, with the county government having committed 100 acres of land for the project.
On infrastructure, Ruto announced that the government had abandoned earlier plans to simply recarpet the existing low-volume seal road serving the area, opting instead for a full reconstruction to a higher classification. "I have also seen your road here, which was initially a low-volume seal road. We have now allocated money for the construction of a new international class B road," he said.
According to the President, the road will run from Salgaa through Chebole, Abosi, and Shartuka, strengthening Emurua Dikirr's connection to the wider regional road network. "The road will be coming from Salgaa to Chebole to Abosi to Shartuka, and the road will be an international class B road," Ruto said.
He indicated that the project would move into its construction phase later this year, with an official launch targeted for October. "I will be coming to launch the construction in October," he said, though he did not disclose the total cost of the road project.
The road forms part of broader plans to improve connectivity across the South Rift, including links to the proposed Rironi-Mau Summit Expressway and other roads connecting Narok, Kericho, and neighbouring counties.
The announcements come nearly six months after Ng'eno's death. The former MP was among six people killed when a helicopter crashed at Chepkiep village in Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, on February 28, 2026.
