Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has removed Geoffrey Mosiria as Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, days after he declared his bid for the 2027 Nairobi governor seat.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has removed Geoffrey Mosiria from his position as Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, days after Mosiria declared his intention to vie for the county's gubernatorial seat.
In a circular dated Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Nairobi City County announced changes affecting three chief officers. Zipporah Njeri has been designated Acting Chief Officer for Public Participation and Citizen Engagement. Samwel Njogu has been reassigned as Acting Chief Officer for Mobility, while Godfrey Akumali will oversee Housing and Urban Renewal and also serve as Acting Chief Officer for Lands.
"Pursuant to sections 44(3)(a), 45(5) and 64 of the County Governments Act, 2012, and with the approval of His Excellency the Governor, the following officers are hereby reassigned and designated to the respective offices of County Chief Officer," the notice read in part.
County Secretary and Head of County Public Service Machel Waikenda said the changes took effect immediately.
The reshuffle comes days after Mosiria publicly declared on October 11 that he will challenge Sakaja for the Nairobi governor seat in the 2027 General Election. He said his experience working across county departments had prepared him to lead the city for the next five years.
In his declaration, Mosiria proposed former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru as his possible running mate, although it is unclear whether the church leader accepted the offer.
Mosiria has recently become critical of the Sakaja administration, raising questions about service delivery and the management of county affairs. On Wednesday, October 21, he vowed to expose alleged wrongdoing at City Hall and claimed that attempts were being made to intimidate him and stop him from speaking out.
He has also previously accused Sakaja of sidelining him after disagreements over the management of public funds and service delivery. Those claims have not been independently established.
The county's circular did not give a reason for the changes affecting Mosiria.
Before taking up the customer service role, Mosiria headed the environment docket, where he became popular for enforcement operations against illegal dumping, noise pollution and other environmental violations.
