Nelson Ambia, who is accused of murdering his girlfriend, Feruz Hussein, has been arraigned in court.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is seeking custodial orders to hold Ambia pending investigations, in an application filed on Wednesday morning, October 21. The court's decision is awaited.
Ambia has not been convicted of any offence, and the allegations against him are yet to be tested in court.
According to the family, Ambia is also accused of repeatedly assaulting Feruz during their relationship and of attacking her mother, sister and brother.
The family further alleges that he called Feruz's mother and her sister, Shadia, threatening to kill the family's two remaining children.
The case has drawn public anger and calls for justice online, with many Kenyans demanding that those responsible for violence against women face the full force of the law.
Police have been investigating Feruz's death, and Don Sami Live understands the case has attracted public attention, including a reward pledged for information on the suspect.
The court's ruling on the DCI's application will determine whether Ambia remains in custody while detectives complete their investigations. Don Sami Live will bring you updates as they come in.
