High Court Quashes Aisha Jumwa's Appointment as Kenya Roads Board Chairperson — Declared Unconstitutional and Unlawful

photo: Former KRB Boss, Aisha Jumwa./courtesy In what legal commentators are already describing as one of the most consequential rulings on public appointments in recent Kenyan judicial history, the High Court has struck down the appointment of former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa Katana as non-executive Chairperson of the Kenya Roads Board (KRB) — declaring it unconstitutional, unlawful, and void ab initio , meaning illegal from the very beginning. Delivering the ruling, Justice Bahati Mwamuye was unambiguous in his findings: the appointment process failed to comply with the mandatory statutory framework set out in law, and no amount of presidential goodwill, political loyalty, or gazette publication could retroactively cure that fundamental illegality. Diani Police Arrest Three Juveniles, Uncover Suspected Stolen Phone Network in Magutu — Kwale County

Operation Recovers 50 Suspected Stolen Phones; Woman Arrested at Residential Property

Police officers based in Diani, Kwale County, have successfully apprehended three suspects under the age of 18 in connection with a reported phone theft case in the Magutu area.

During the course of the investigation, the juvenile suspects led officers to a nearby residential property where they claimed to have sold the stolen device. A subsequent search of the premises yielded significant results — officers recovered the reported phone alongside 50 additional mobile phones suspected to be stolen, as well as various mobile phone spare parts.

Owner's Wife Arrested at the Scene

The owner of the property, David Mwanzia, was not present at the time of the operation. However, his wife and business partner, Elizabeth Wanjiru, was found on the premises and was arrested on the spot.

According to Msambweni Sub-County Police Commander Robinson Lang'at, preliminary investigations have established that Elizabeth Wanjiru was the individual who received the allegedly stolen phone directly from the juvenile suspects.

Police Call on Theft Victims to Come Forward

Commander Lang'at has issued a public appeal urging anyone who may have previously fallen victim to phone theft in the area to present themselves at Diani Police Station to assist with the ongoing investigation.

"Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of phone theft in this area is encouraged to visit Diani Police Station as soon as possible," — Commander Robinson Lang'at.
