Coast MPs Who Made the Top Performers List in CountyTrak 2026

John Bwire, Danson Mwashako and Omar Mwinyi are the three Coast region MPs who made it into Infotrak's CountyTrak 2026 national top-performers list.

When Infotrak Research and Consulting released the CountyTrak Performance Index 2026, the headlines went to Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who topped the national rankings with an 80 per cent approval rating. But tucked within that same list were three MPs representing the Coast region, each earning a spot among the country's best-rated legislators.

Here's a closer look at how the Coast performed in this year's citizen-based leadership survey.

Taveta MP John Bwire — 76%

Leading the Coast contingent is Taveta MP John Bwire, who posted a 76 per cent approval rating — tying him with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro for third place nationally, just behind survey topper Babu Owino and second-placed Kabuchai MP Joseph Kalasinga.

Bwire's strong showing places him firmly among the top-tier legislators in the entire country, not just within the Coast bloc, reflecting solid public perception around service delivery and responsiveness in Taveta constituency.

Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako — 70%

Representing Taita Taveta County alongside Bwire is Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako, who scored 70 per cent in the survey. His rating places him in a tie with five other MPs nationally, including Mumias East's Peter Salasya and Aldai's Marianne Kitany.

Notably, Taita Taveta County lands two MPs in the national top bracket — Bwire and Mwashako — a strong showing for a single county in this year's index.

Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi — 70%

Rounding out the Coast representation is Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi of Mombasa County, who also scored 70 per cent, matching Mwashako's rating and placing him in the same tied group of top performers.

Mwinyi's inclusion gives Mombasa County a presence in the national top tier, alongside the other high-performing constituencies from across the country.

Closing the top 5 standings are Mohammed Ali of Nyali Constituency with a 69% and Hon. Badi Twalib of Jomvu constituency with a 56%.

What This Means for the Coast

According to Infotrak, MPs in the survey were evaluated on public service delivery, visibility, responsiveness and how well they met residents' leadership expectations. The fact that three Coast MPs — spanning two different counties — made it into a national list dominated by legislators from other regions suggests growing recognition of leadership performance along the Coast.

It's worth noting that the CountyTrak 2026 survey was conducted between January and May 2026, covering all 47 counties, 290 constituencies and 1,450 wards, with 87,286 respondents nationally.

The published top-performers list captured the highest-rated MPs countrywide rather than a county-by-county breakdown, so this piece reflects only the Coast MPs confirmed within that released list.
